History of 37 W Front

The current building was built in 1894 for George Burster's gents' clothing and furnishings store. The West commercial block was completely destroyed by a fire on July 19, 1894. The El Paso Story records that G. Burster lost $20,000--clothing and building. Proving his resiliency, G. Burster quickly rebuilt.
George died in 1914 at age 50. He had been in the clothing business in El Paso since the age of 18. He owned his own store from 1891 to 1905, before incorporating with his brothers as Burster & Henning Co. Burster & Henning Co. would be in business until the 1950s.
37 W Front was later owned by two others, hosting clothing and sewing stores. as well as an event space. In 2024, Hayley Tibbs and Molly Wilkey (sisters) purchased the building. Making them only the 4th owners since 1894.
